About Our School
For a century, Government Boys Higher Secondary School Kaveripakkam has been the beacon of education in our region, nurturing young minds and building the foundation for countless success stories.
Our Rich History
A century of transforming lives through education
Founded in 1926 on Mariyamman Kovil Street, Kaveripakkam, our school began as a Board High School on land donated by C. Abdul Hakeem Sahib. The iconic school bell with its Thiruvalluvar statue at the base could be heard for miles around. In its early decades, the school offered diverse courses including Engineering, Agriculture, Carpentry, Weaving, and a Teacher Training Division — remarkably progressive for a rural institution.
The golden era under HM A.U. Sivaprakasam (1965-72) saw enrollment peak at 3,200 students with 6 sections per class. Water was delivered daily by Thiru Ranganathan of Thirupparkadal using a hand-cart — a service he continued for years. The school pioneered the region's first intercom system, installed free by alumnus G. Ramalingam. Our NCC unit, led for 20 years by S. Karunakaran, conducted parasailing, microlight flying, and signed over 25,000 attestation certificates across 20+ camps with 650+ cadets.
Today, as we celebrate our centenary, we stand proud of alumni including P. Ravindran IAS (Chairman Port Trust Chennai), K. Porkodi IAS (District Collector), former MLAs N. Shanmugam and V.K.R. Srinivasan, nuclear scientist Er. Ezhumalai (Kalpakkam), and D. Ekambaram (Retired AGM, Bank of India). Seven doctors emerged from the 1960s batches alone. From our halls have walked thousands who became doctors, engineers, teachers, government officers, and responsible citizens who continue to serve society.
